General Rules
1. Great Community Give begins on April 16, 2025, at 6 a.m. EST and ends at 8 p.m. EST.
2. Organizations will be put into one of three size categories, based on a review of submitted financial information. Revenue from FY 23 Form 990s, as a simple and efficient standardized measure of fundraising capacity, will be used to create equitable competition. Size Categories
3. Early gifts can be accepted between April 2 and April 16 (prior to 6 a.m.) and are reflected on the leaderboards at the start of the event.
4. Early gifts will be counted towards overall fundraising totals and the Leaderboard totals. Early gifts will NOT count towards the determination of Power Hour prizes or Golden Tickets on the day of Great Community Give.
5. Offline gifts (cash or check) should be sent directly to the nonprofit. Nonprofits are responsible for communicating this process to donors. TCFHR will hold and forward donations sent to our mailing address until after the event concludes.
6. Offline gifts will count only towards Leaderboard prizes; they do NOT count towards the determination of Power Hour prizes or Golden Tickets on the day of Great Community Give.
7. For recordkeeping and accuracy, only ONLINE donations via the GiveGab/GCG platform will count towards Power Hour and Golden Ticket prizes on April 16.
8. Nonprofits that win a Leaderboard prize will be asked for a record of offline gifts.
9. The Most Donors category is counted as “unique donors” by the Givegab platform. Unique donors are identified by email address only. If one donor gave once to two different organizations, they would count as a unique donor to each organization, but only once in the global totals. Offline gifts entered without an email address will be considered unique. Multiple donations from one email address to the same nonprofit will count as one unique donor. Multiple donations from one person with multiple email addresses will count as one unique donor. To be considered a unique donor, the donor must provide first name, last name, full mailing address and email address; one donor using multiple "display names" will count as one unique donor. (Please honor the spirit of ethical competition and do not solicit individual donors to give using different email addresses. If a participating organization is found to have attempted to circumvent this rule, they will be barred from future GCG participation.)
10. The Community Foundation of Harrisonburg & Rockingham County is not eligible to receive a giving day grant, prize, or any individual donations from community members.
11. One organization can win multiple types of prizes (i.e. Leaderboard prize, Power Hour prize, & Golden Ticket prize).
12. Although multiple Power Hours occur, organizations may win only ONE Power Hour prize.
13. Although multiple Golden Ticket prizes occur, organizations may win only ONE Golden Ticket prize.
14. Organizations cannot donate to themselves.
15. Organizations cannot make a donation on behalf of a donor in lieu of a gift of cash or check.
16. Prizes that are periodically announced throughout the day are final only after verification.
17. Prizes are exclusive to qualifying nonprofits. The Community Foundation of Harrisonburg and Rockingham County reserves the right to verify qualifying information and revoke, change or award prizes at its discretion. Unethical behavior or attempts to game the system on the part of participants will lead to banning from future GCG events.
18. All time-specific prizes are calculated using time-stamped data provided by Bonterra and verified by The Community Foundation.
19. In the event of a tie for a prize, the prize amount will be split evenly among the winning organizations.
20. All donations will be for unrestricted use by the chosen charities, unless otherwise specified on the participating organization’s profile page.
21. Donations may not be used to pay for anything that might be perceived as a material benefit to the donor including memberships, admission tickets, payments for tuition, payments for event tickets, etc.
23. TCFHR assumes no liability for credit/debit card or related information provided by the donor to a third party, such as an organization staff member or volunteer. Donors using the event website hosted by Bonterra are entering credit or debit card information into a secure PCI compliant web portal.
24. Prizes will be distributed via a grant check to the winning organizations by The Community Foundation of Harrisonburg & Rockingham County. All grants are awarded at the discretion of foundation’s board. Funds may be withheld if a participating organization is believed to have violated the mission, values, and guidelines of TCFHR and/or the event. [Participating organizations will receive their donations within 5-7 business days after the conclusion of the event by the payment processor, Stripe.]
