  • What is the Great Community Give and when will it take place?
    The Great Community Give is a powerful 1-day online giving event designed to inspire and grow
    philanthropy in our Community. It is a single-day fundraising celebration focused on community nonprofits. It will build
    community and connect donors with local nonprofits as well as build social media presence for local nonprofits. The Great Community Give is hosted by The Community Foundation of Harrisonburg-Rockingham County. The hope is to empower those of all ages who love our community to easily support their favorite causes or charitable organizations. The second annual Great Community Give will take place on April 17, 2019.

  • What’s the goal of the Great Community Give?
    ● Generating $333,000 for the Harrisonburg/Rockingham community
    ● Generating $80K in prize money from the corporate community partners
    ● Engage 3,333 donors.
  • How does it work?
    Online donations to participating charities will be accepted from 6:30 am to 8:00 pm on April 17, 2019. Donations made online during that 1-day period will be updated in real time on the online leader board at www.greatcommunitygive.org. All donations on www.greatcommunitygive.org will be made to the partner nonprofit of their choice. All donations are final and cannot be refunded. Donations may also be made in person by cash or check at The Community Foundation office from 6:30 am to 8:00 pm. Checks may be written to “The Community Foundation” with the nonprofit name specified in the memo line. Checks and Cash will not be counted towards the prize pool. Nonprofit organizations will receive their on-line donations within 48 hours, any prizes that day, and individual checks delivered to The Community Foundation within 48 hours of the event.
  • Can I use PayPal to make a donation to the Great Community Give?
    Yes! PayPal is available for one-time donation transactions. Once you’ve selected a donation amount, simply choose ‘PayPal’ as your payment option in Step 2 of the checkout process.
  • Who is able to participate?
    Nonprofit organizations recognized by the IRS as 501(c)(3) public charities located in and serve the people Harrisonburg or Rockingham are eligible to register for the Great Community Give.
    Organizations that exist primarily for religious purposes (including houses of worship and their foundations) or political activities are excluded from participating. Organizations that discriminate based on race, gender, age, disability, creed or ethnic group are also excluded.
  • Is there a minimum donation?
    The minimum donation is $10. There is a maximum donation limit of $10,000 per nonprofit per
    household.
  • Is there a limit to the amount an organization can receive?
    There is no maximum amount an organization may receive.
  • What if I can’t find my favorite nonprofit on the website?
    It’s most likely that organization did not register to participate. Encourage them to register if they serve the people of Harrisonburg and Rockingham County and have a local office.
  • When will the nonprofit know about my donation?
    Your nonprofit will receive notice of your online donation in real-time and have access to a full donation report. You have the option to give anonymously (online or offline) if you choose to do so.  Donations will automatically go into the nonprofit merchant account (bank account)
  • How do I get a tax receipt?
    Your online gift tax receipt is e-mailed to you immediately upon successful processing of your donation. For additional copies of receipts, please contact the nonprofit organization(s) you contributed to.  Please allow two – four weeks for receipts from donations via check.
